The Story of Ritchie Remo: From a Borrowed Guitar to Global Stages

At age 12, Ritchie Remo made a decision that would change his life forever. He wanted to start a band.

Raised in Claudy, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in a household where music flowed as freely as conversation, Ritchie was surrounded by the timeless songs of his culture and the dreams of his father, a working‑class man with a love for singing.

On his 12th birthday, Ritchie “borrowed” a guitar from a neighbour and asked his dad to make it his gift. His father not only agreed but also bought a guitar of his own. Together, they began learning, a father‑and‑son duo bound by music, ambition, and love.

With no internet, no online lessons, and just a second‑hand learner book, they practiced relentlessly. After two years, Ritchie and his father played their first gig. That humble beginning blossomed into one of the most‑followed bands in their region. Every weekend, Ritchie honed his craft, learning not just how to play, but how to connect deeply and joyfully, with audiences.

Even when money was tight, the music never stopped. One day, Ritchie’s father came home with a fiddle he found atop a bin. “Think you could get a tune out of that?” he asked.

Ritchie did more than that, he taught himself the basics, found a mentor, and discovered a new musical voice that would later define his solo artistry.

Ritchie Remo - Irish Country Artist 3

It was in those moments, gritty, real, and full of heart that Ritchie Remo was truly born. Not just as a performer, but as a storyteller steeped in Irish tradition and driven by a passion that transcends borders.

His debut album and standout performances at events like The Lammas Fair and Country Fest catapulted him into the spotlight. From there, Ritchie embraced the global stage with international performances in Lanzarote, Denmark, and Canada; and a starring role in Ireland, the Show, which took him across the UK. The show introduced him to new cultural rhythms, stagecraft, and discipline all while remaining true to his roots.

Ritchie’s catalogue includes beloved fan favourites such as the high‑energy anthem “Hit the Diff,” his soulful take on “Galway Girl,” and his rousing rendition of the Irish folk classic “Hills of Connemara” a crowd‑pleaser that ignites dance floors and stirs nostalgia in Irish hearts everywhere. These songs, alongside a growing list of modern folk‑country gems, have earned Ritchie a loyal fanbase that spans continents.

Now, as Ritchie prepares for his first‑ever U.S. tour, he brings with him the spirit of Irish resilience and joy. His music is a bridge connecting generations, cultures, and musical tastes. It’s for the Irish‑American families who grew up with their grandparents’ ballads. For the multicultural communities whose own stories echo in the fiddle’s cry. And for country music lovers who appreciate a good story and a heartfelt performance.
